in a way I could never imagine it would. Things that were so easily taken for granted in the past can no longer be overlooked because I now feel so close to the world around me.
The past seven years I photographed my two beautiful daughters, Lindsey and Courtney Hall. This included all the usual childhood shots as well as their marching band and winter guard programs. I worked in both color and black and white.
I started to nurture my dream of becoming a photographer over the past three years.
Today, I take photos everywhere I go! Flowers are a favorite of mine; as are birds and nature in general. The beach and the mountains provide an endless source of special sights to capture. They are among my favorite spots. I love black and white photos and am increasing my work in that area as well
Sunrises and sunsets at the beach are powerful sights to behold and photograph. One can only stand humbly in awe of God’s creations. My photos are the fruits of His gifts - both the large and the small - that surround me and inspire me. They celebrate the time I spend alone “seeing” as I was never able to see before.
Last year I began photographing my pets and those of my friends. This led to a successful event this past December. Pet owners brought their dogs to a local dog park for a very unique photo shoot; sometimes the photos were of the dogs and their owners, sometimes the dog was the sole star. The pet owners were almost as pleased with my resulting work as the dogs were!
Wedding and reception photography is an ever expanding part of my work.
The Capital City Camera Club selected my work as “Photo of the Month” in both May and June of 2008.
I was also pleased to receive the “Editor’s Choice Award” for photography from
Picture.com in July 2008.
Photography provides an avenue for me to capture and share with you my personal view of a small part of the wonders surrounding us.
Perhaps my journey and my work will ignite a spark in others to fuel and nurture their dreams. Perhaps it will inspire some to pursue their passion and share it with others. As I am learning, dreams can come true.
About the Author
Grace Garrett was born and raised in Highland Springs, Virginia, just east of Richmond. She is an only child and grew up loving to work with her hands; creating and exploring many types of art. This love of art followed her throughout her school years, taking art classes and photographing sporting events for her year book. However, it is her love of photography that was always the greatest. When asked, Grace cannot recall a time when she did not love photography.
